Brentford have reportedly reached an agreement with Iceland international Hakon Valdimarsson just days after the goalkeeper publically praised Aston Villa.
The 22-year-old Elfsborg star has emerged as a Premier League target in recent days, with Unai Emery’s Villa strongly linked with a move for Valdimarsson as a potential long-term signing.
One of the most exciting goalkeepers in all of Europe, Villa looked like the strong favourites to sign Valdimarsson this January, especially with the Icelandic star praising the Villa Park side in a recent interview.
However, according to the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Brentford have now reached an agreement to sign Valdimarsson, with the Nordic shot-stopper now set to make the switch to west London.
With Brentford on the hunt for a long-term replacement for David Raya, it makes sense why the Bees have now come out of nowhere to beat the likes of Villa to Valdimarsson.
Indeed, the Elfsborg star is one of the most exciting goalkeeping prospects in all of Europe, and Valdimarsson could suit Thomas Frank’s style of play at Brentford.
Aston Villa will be fuming Brentford signed Hakon Valdimarsson

In a January window that has been devoid of any real excitement, it’s good to see that a genuine transfer saga has now broken out between Brentford and Villa.
And for Emery’s side, they will be left fuming that the Bees have come out of nowhere to sign Valdimarsson, who could have been a perfect understudy for Emi Martinez.
However, with Brentford likely promising future first-team football as well as having strong Nordic roots in every aspect of the club, it makes sense why Valdimarsson has now chosen the west London side.
Moreover, given how Frank and his coaching staff approach promising young players, there’s every chance that Valdimarsson could explode in the coming months, something that wouldn’t happen at Villa.
