Celtic’s win over Ross County kept a clear five-point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership yesterday afternoon.

But not only did that win keep Celtic’s grip at the summit of the table intact, it also marked the captain, Callum McGregor‘s 450th appearance for the club.

In a truly outstanding achievement, the 30-year-old is one of Celtic most decorated players in their entire history.

Now the captain of the club, McGregor has already won a double in his first season and a historic treble last season as he bids to keep Celtic’s domination of Scottish football going.

And boss, Brendan Rodgers, was full of praise for his captain and admitted that McGregor is so good, he could have played for him at Liverpool.

When asked to comment on McGregor’s 450th appearance, Rodgers said [BBC], “Tremendous. At a club like this, it’s remarkable.

“Having been here the first time and seeing what he did for me then and how he was developing and growing to come back this time and see him as the leader of the club and catalyst for the group, I am really lucky to have him here.

“He’s a great player and could have graced any top league. The teams I managed in the Premier League, which is deemed to be the best league in the world, he could have played for any of those teams.

“But he wanted to stay here and to come through the academy and play 450 games is just incredible.”

McGregor has racked up eight league titles, five Scottish Cups and seven League Cups in a career that has spanned over 15 years from youth level.

Ironically, McGregor actually faced Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side whilst on loan at Notts County back in 2013 where he helped his team battle back from 2-0 down in the EFL League Cup to take the tie to extra time.

Eventually losing the game 4-2, McGregor more than held his own against a Liverpool team that had peak Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson.

The Celtic support will be glad that McGregor has stayed at the club as he has been absolutely pivotal in ensuring the club have been the dominant force in Scottish football over the past two decades.
