Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Record that Kieran Tierney is one of the best he has worked with, and insisted that he expects the left-back to become a huge asset for Arsenal.
Tierney has taken little time to impress the Gunners fans. While Unai Emery and a number of players may be coming under pressure, the Scot has actually proved to be one of this season’s success stories.
Since returning from injury, the former Celtic man has proved to be one of the club’s best performers. And ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Leicester City this weekend, Rodgers lauded the defender and suggested that he expects the youngster to go on and have a brilliant career at the Emirates.
“Kieran will improve Arsenal with his quality. He’s got a massive heart and once he gets himself fully fit and adjusted to the life there he’s going to be a huge asset for them,” he told the Daily Record.
“He’s got leadership qualities – he inspires people around him – and he has that winning mentality from his time growing up at Celtic. He brings that mentality every day to training. He’s one of the best boys I’ve ever worked with in terms of that mentality and it spreads throughout the group.”
It is incredibly encouraging that Tierney is already impressing. He returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines in September, and Gunners fans are probably yet to see him play while fully fit.
Tierney was arguably one of, if not the only player who emerged from Wednesday’s draw with Vitoria with any credit.
And it is clear that plenty of supporters feel that he should be Emery’s first-choice ahead of Sead Kolasinac.
It will be fascinating to see how Tierney gets on against the Foxes if he plays. Rodgers’s men are flying this season, and will almost definitely put Arsenal’s defence under serious pressure.
