'Bravo’: Conte impressed by £25m Tottenham player’s crossing in training yesterday, he tees up Richarlison

Antonio Conte was seen praising Emerson Royal’s crossing in training, in a video uploaded by Tottenham Hotspur.

It has previously been claimed that Conte could be willing to sell the full-back, but Emerson has made it clear he doesn’t want to leave Spurs this summer after joining 12 months ago for £25m from Barcelona.

The Brazilian international has struggled at times to adapt to the demands of a wing-back in a Conte system, with the Italian expecting his wide players to contribute going forward and defensively.

However, Emerson managed just one goal and a single assist last season, and will now be competing with Matt Doherty and new £12.5m signing Djed Spence, who has already been described as ‘unbelievable’.

In the clip shared on Spurs’ YouTube channel, Conte is seen shouting ‘Bravo!’ and praising Emerson as he whips a cross into the box for another new recruit Richarlison to head home.

Emerson needs to deliver to keep his place

Emerson was handed plenty of opportunities to impress Conte last season, with Eric Dier and Ben Davies the only defenders to play more minutes than the Brazilian in the Premier League.

And in pre-season this summer, only left-back Ryan Sessegnon has been awarded more minutes by Conte in his back line.

Both players are fighting for their spots in the squad against new arrivals, with Spence on the right and Ivan Perisic on the left giving Conte a selection conundrum.

Whether that future is at Spurs, or elsewhere with Juventus one of the clubs linked with the 23-year-old, only time will tell.
