Bogusz could be surprise package at Leeds next season – TBR View

Mateusz Bogusz was dealt a huge blow back in January when he suffered a season-ending injury while away from Leeds United, on loan at UB Ibiza.

Leeds fans have been given reason to forget about the players loaned out in the last few years. Remarkably, not a single player loaned out during Marcelo Bielsa’s time at the club went on to make an appearance for the first-team upon their return.

Being loaned out seemed to be a sign from Bielsa that they faced a bleak future at Elland Road. So it disappointed many when the Pole was given the green light to spend the last two years away from Leeds.

The 20-year-old – who cost £172,000 – had previously been extremely impressive for the under-23s. And he seemed to have that moment of magic up his sleeve that would make that step-up to the first-team somewhat easier.

He certainly went on to show that quality in Ibiza. Bogusz scored four goals and contributed seven assists in 20 league games.

His season has been over since January. And it is not yet clear how much longer he will be sidelined for. But perhaps there is now reason to believe that Bogusz’s hopes of making the grade with Leeds have been boosted.

Bielsa has now moved on. And in his place, Leeds have appointed Jesse Marsch. With that, some players will find themselves with a clean slate.

Certainly, Sam Greenwood looks to have benefitted massively from the change. Meanwhile, Crysencio Summerville has been in every squad since the American was appointed.

Leeds are working towards what Marsch wants from his system. But obviously, the priority is getting the points that will ensure that they stay up.

The expectation is that Leeds may take a more narrow approach going forward from next season. Instead of two wingers, the Whites may deploy two attacking midfielders, who feature more centrally.

Brenden Aaronson has been linked once again. But perhaps that change could also open the door for Bogusz to have a role in next season’s squad.

He is not the finished article yet. But he is one of the most natural number 10s at the club. And as previously mentioned, he has that ability to produce a moment of brilliance.

And if Leeds look to make the most of their budget, including Bogusz around the first-team could be a really smart move.
