'Biggest improvement': Klopp says 'outstanding' Liverpool player has actually got so much better

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp raved about how much Andy Robertson has improved after his performance against Arsenal last night.

The Reds dominated the game despite a slow start and deservedly picked up the win. Diogo Jota’s brace and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s incredible assist in the second half will make all the headlines, but Robertson was quietly brilliant as well.

The Scot was up against one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wingers in Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal man usually has a lot of joy on the right flank, but Robertson stuck to his task brilliantly and kept the youngster quiet for most parts of the game.

One Player Who Should REJECT Your Club

Klopp was absolutely delighted with his left-back and hailed the improvement he has shown defensively since his move to Anfield from Hull City in 2017.

Jurgen Klopp: Andy Robertson is the best left-back in Europe

Asked if Robertson is the best left-back in Europe, Klopp said, as per Liverpool’s official website: “For me, yes, but I am not sure that is too important, to be honest. For me, absolutely.

“Outstanding player and, again, the mix of his skillset and his mentality, that makes him so special. You see the situations when he has the ball that he is a good footballer but the desire in each game when he really wants to defend with all he has, I think that’s the biggest improvement since he arrived.

“That was a little bit the issue in the early stages when he came from Hull to us; he was already a massive talent but defending-wise we were not over the moon.

“But, he improved a lot and is now the full package, which is really helpful.”

TBR View:

Many people were surprised when Liverpool decided to sign Robertson from Hull City four-and-a-half years ago. The Scot had just suffered relegation and no other top club really considered him.

Liverpool decided to gamble, even though he had a lot to improve defensively.

After countless training sessions and games against the best clubs in the world, Robertson’s defending has improved massively. Klopp deserves a lot of credit for that and not many people can argue against the Liverpool boss’ claim that he’s the best left-back in Europe at the moment.

Robertson was fantastic against Arsenal last night and he will have to be just as good when Liverpool face Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup next month.
