'Big move': O'Hara thinks Arsenal are on the verge of signing a 'brilliant' player

Arsenal are closing in on a “brilliant” signing in Ben White, according to talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara.

Sky Sports reported at the weekend that the Gunners have agreed a fee of around £50million to sign the Brighton centre-back.

The outlet also claimed White should be undergoing his medical when he returns from holiday on July 26.

Danny Mills, O’Hara’s fellow talkSPORT pundit, was surprised that the 23-year-old looked set to join Arsenal and not Manchester United.

“The only thing I am surprised at is Ben White has gone to Arsenal,” he said (1:24pm, 18/7/21).

“Let’s assume that he will be at Arsenal for two or three years at least before he goes somewhere else. I just think he is better than that.”

Arsenal are still a “huge football club”

O’Hara disagreed, arguing his point on the radio station a few days later when asked about Mills’ comments.

“Disagree with that if I am totally honest,” O’Hara said on Tuesday. “I think it’s a great signing, think he’s a brilliant player.

“I enjoyed watching him for Brighton last season. He’s very good and he looked good for England as well.

“How can you not say it’s a step up? How can you say it’s not showing ambition by signing for Arsenal?

“They are still a huge football club, with top players and world-class players in their squad.

“It’s a big move for him. £50million, they have invested in him.

“He (Mills) says ‘Oh, why aren’t clubs like Manchester City or Liverpool coming in for him?’. Well maybe, they don’t want him.”

White shone at Leeds on loan in 2019-20, helping the Elland Road side back into the Premier League.

Last season, he made his Brighton breakthrough, and this summer, he was part of the England squad that reached the Euro 2020 final.
