Arsenal transfer: Medical reportedly imminent as Gunners close on Brighton ace

According to the Times, Ben White looks poised to sign for Arsenal after the Gunners agreed to pay an initial £50 million fee for the Brighton defender.

A medical now looks set to take place and the deal looks close.

The talented centre-back has recently been a part of the England squad that came narrowly close to winning Euro 2020. The Three Lions were beaten by Italy on penalties in the Wembley final last Sunday.

White came of age at Brighton last season. He made 39 appearances for the Seagulls, making a real impact after a season-long spell at Leeds the year previous.

He was purely a backup option at Euro 2020. He was on the bench for wins over Croatia and the Czech Republic but wasn’t included for England’s other five fixtures.

At 23, White looks set for a bright future and Arsenal look to have finally got their man. Mikel Arteta has been keen to bolster his defensive ranks and this could be a decent addition.

The versatile performer is set to be handed a £120,000-a-week deal and will join the Gunners for four years.

White to Arsenal: Brighton man could prove masterful addition by Arteta

Some fans do feel as though Arsenal are overpaying for White and they might have a little point.

Given that the Gunners squad needs reinforcing in many areas, this does seem like a rather expensive central defensive signing.

There is a lot to like about the signing of White though. For starters, he’s a proven Premier League performer and would need no settling in period.

He also has bags of potential and should improve in the coming years. With that in mind, they do look to be landing a player who could enjoy his best years with Arsenal.

Some supporters might take some convincing but this could be a decent piece of business by the Gunners.
