Big Federico Chiesa twist emerges after Liverpool make contact

There was a significant development on Monday evening in what has otherwise been a very quiet transfer window for Liverpool.

Following Arne Slot‘s appointment earlier in the summer, there has not been anything to shout about on Merseyside when it comes to the transfer market.

With just a matter of hours remaining in this summer’s window, Liverpool remain the only club in the Premier League without a signing.

However, the Reds may have just burst into life with Liverpool making contact with Juventus for Federico Chiesa on Monday.

This has come as a big surprise with Liverpool otherwise looking fairly dormant in the market ahead of Friday’s deadline.

But there may already be a twist in the tale with the Reds showing an interest in the Italy international.

Liverpool already hit Federico Chiesa issue

It has to be mentioned that Liverpool have also agreed on a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili ahead of deadline day.

However, the Georgian goalkeeper is one for the future as he is set to head straight back out on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.

But a deal for Chiesa may well go right down to the wire with the Italian winger also receiving interest from elsewhere.

According to Tuttosport, Barcelona and Juventus have already reached an agreement for Chiesa.

The report came on Monday afternoon around the same time the news broke of Liverpool’s interest in the Juventus winger.

And it is believed Chiesa has also given the greenlight to joining Barcelona with his agent informing the club of his decision.

An interesting few days lie ahead of Liverpool in the market and it seems as if they may have a fight on their hands if they are to land the winger.

Federico Chiesa would like to play in the Premier League

Liverpool are not the only club from the Premier League to have shown an interest in Chiesa with Arsenal and Tottenham having also eyed the winger.

And it is believed that Chiesa has previously approved a potential move to the Premier League with the two London clubs having spoken to his agent.

So it would seem as if this is a player who Liverpool would be able to attract to Anfield, however, it is a case of whether they can beat Barcelona to his signature.

With hours remaining in the window, Liverpool could certainly make one of the more exciting signings of this summer window to end the market.
