Bernardo Silva slams referee for ‘ridiculous’ decision he made right at the end of Arsenal vs Man City

Arsenal and Manchester City drew 2-2 at the weekend and this game was largely defined by a few strange refereeing decisions.

Arsenal’s first goal came from a controversial quick restart that had City players up in arms, while Leandro Trossard’s red card was a huge talking point after the game.

Chris Sutton has also criticised Michael Oliver for the amount of added time he added at the end of this game, and now, Bernardo Silva has shared a similar sentiment.

Indeed, speaking to Di Marzio, Silva hasn’t hold back when criticising the referee’s performance at the weekend.

Bernardo Silva criticises Michael Oliver

Silva made his feelings on the referee very clear.

“The referee did his part, letting them do it. Every season we have meetings with the referees of the Premier League and they always promise us that they will do everything to avoid certain types of situations. But then nothing ever happens,’ Silva said.

“On the equalising goal the referee was still talking to our captain, not giving us the necessary time to return to our positions on the pitch. Then on the 2-1 goal Ederson was obstructed by Arsenal players.

“Then they fouled Rodri before their goalkeeper was the protagonist of time-wasting.

“But do you know what the most ridiculous thing is? Only giving 6-7 minutes of added time after all that. But at least we played to win and we are still happy because I am someone who likes to play football to win. While they used tricks and cheating.”

Michael Oliver messed up

It has to be said that this wasn’t Michael Oliver’s finest hour.

He made multiple mistakes that affected both teams, and everyone involved had a right to be frustrated with the referee’s calls.

Ultimately, with Trossard’s red card, the controversial first goal and the amount of added time, Oliver’s decisions did almost balance themselves out, but the standard of refereeing on Sunday was shoddy to say the least.

These decisions could all end up having a huge bearing on the title race come the end of the season.
