Ben Parker has told LS11 that he was stunned by the performance of Kristoffer Klaesson following his Leeds United debut in the dramatic win at Wolves on Friday.

Leeds went into the international break on a real high. It did appear that everything was going wrong at Molineux. Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente and Mateusz Klich all came off during the first-half. And Leeds went into the break 2-0 down.

The injuries did not stop there. Illan Meslier was taken off early on in the second-half after clashing with Raul Jimenez in the incident that saw the striker receive a second yellow card.

It was Klaesson who was brought on for the Frenchman. And the fans may have been forgiven for fearing the worst with the Norwegian not having the best time for the under-23s this season.

However, Klaesson’s last couple of games for the youngsters suggested that he had turned a corner. In particular, he was outstanding against Manchester United at Elland Road.

Parker lauded that display in the 3-0 win. And he suggested that that gave him the launchpad to produce a brilliant cameo when needed at Wolves.

“He made two fantastic saves in that game and that just gave him confidence,” he told LS11, referring to that Manchester United game.

“You come in off the back of a really great performance just three days before, called upon into a game where you’re 2-0 down, yeah you’ve got a man advantage. And you just think, wow, what a performance because two of the saves were fantastic. And that just gives you confidence that if he needs to, he can step up.”

Ideally, Jesse Marsch will have all four players back for Southampton after the international break. However, those who came in were all superb. And Klaesson was definitely amongst them.

He is not the finished article. There were a couple of kicks against Wolves that reminded everyone that he is not yet on the same level as Meslier.

But if he is needed, Klaesson could definitely step up for Leeds. And that was something that was not entirely clear before the game on Friday.
