Alan Shearer has named Kristoffer Klaesson in his Premier League team of the week and labelled two of the saves the Leeds United goalkeeper made against Wolves ‘world-class’.

Jesse Marsch’s men have given themselves a brilliant chance of getting out of trouble. Leeds followed their dramatic win over Norwich with an amazing fightback at Molineux.

The Whites were 2-0 down against Bruno Lage’s men at half-time. But they managed to score three times in the second-half to move themselves seven points clear of the bottom three.

There is still work to do. But Leeds have secured six massive points in the last two games. And the result at Wolves was all the more impressive given the amount of hurdles the Whites had to clear.

Leeds lost Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente and Mateusz Klich to injury during the first-half. And their woes increased after the break with Illan Meslier coming off at 2-0.

Klich coming off due to concussion meant that Leeds were able to replace Meslier with Klaesson. The Norwegian was making his top-flight debut for the club.

Some of his distribution was shaky. But he produced some outstanding stops. And there was one brilliant punch from a corner when he was surrounded by a number of players.

Certainly, his performance did not escape the attention of Shearer, who named the goalkeeper in his team of the week.

“Came on for his Premier League debut after Illan Meslier was taken off and made two world-class saves late on to help Leeds to a dramatic 3-2 win,” he told the Premier League website.

Klaesson display something of a surprise after mixed Leeds spell

Leeds fans who have followed the under-23s would have been forgiven for fearing the worst when Klaesson came on. The 21-year-old has struggled for much of the campaign.

However, his last couple of displays for the youngsters have been much better. Nevertheless, it was a huge ask to expect Klaesson help Leeds at Wolves.

But he stepped up superbly. Meslier will be hoping to be back as soon as possible. But Leeds fans can now be a lot more hopeful if Klaesson is needed at all after the international break.
