Ben Jacobs gives update on Newcastle target Moises Caicedo to Chelsea
Moises Caicedo has been linked with Newcastle United but there is now a real chance he joins Chelsea this month.
That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter, who has provided an update on the situation surrounding one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League.
He said that Brighton have not had any offers for the Ecuador international yet, but Chelsea may now plot another raid on them.
Chelsea have been trying to back Graham Potter in his first transfer window in charge since leaving the Seagulls, looking to improve current performances on the pitch.
Chelsea could now move for Caicedo
The Athletic have reported that a new number six this month is a priority for the Magpies during the current transfer window.
But it perhaps seemed unlikely they would splash in the region of £60 million mid-season while they are trying to be conscious of FFP.
Chelsea’s relatively new ownership regime seem keen to throw money around, and they have just stolen a march on the rest to get Joao Felix.
That required not waiting for the loan fee to come down and it seems that getting Caicedo now would come at a premium too.
Newcastle have shown themselves to be more patient over the course of multiple transfer windows to eventually get players they want.
Tielemans would be a more budget-friendly alternative, although the Leicester player they may well wait and sign in the summer is James Maddison.
