Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw against Brentford in the Premier League this past weekend, and Ben Foster was unimpressed by what he saw from one of their new summer signings.
The Blues had come back from a goal behind to seemingly win the game after goals from Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo, only for Fabio Carvalho to score a 93rd-minute equaliser.
Enzo Maresca’s side lost two points despite Brentford’s impressive performance throughout the game at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The last-minute goal made the result feel like a defeat for Chelsea, and the club dropped to fifth in the Premier League table.

Ben Foster would have been ‘battering’ Alejandro Garnacho after full-time
Alejandro Garnacho made his debut for Chelsea in the 79th minute, and he quickly made an impact both positively and negatively, with the latter leaving Foster frustrated.
Garnacho assisted Caicedo’s goal but was then found wanting defensively as he failed to track Carvalho for a back-post tap. On the Football Fill-In, Foster revealed how he’d have reacted.
“He’d only come on 10 minutes prior, he weren’t tired, it’s not like he’d played the whole game and he’s knackered. He came on 10 minutes prior, you should be fresh as a daisy.
“When you’re coming on, the manager should be saying, ‘Don’t forget on long throws, you’re that back post man, alright? You don’t switch off for a second.’
“If one of my players had done that in the 94th minute, he’d switched off, and he’d just come on. I’m getting in the changing room at full time and one; I’m absolutely battering him, because you can’t switch off like that.
“Two, I’m talking to the coaches. ‘Have you told him? Have you made sure he knows that he’s supposed to be at the back post? Because if he doesn’t know, it’s your fault, and you should have told him.’
“He should be clever enough in-game to be able to look around and have his head on a swivel, and know that they’re trying to score, so he’s going to have to cover that back post anyway. It’s such a messy way to not win a game.”
Chelsea will need to showcase more cutting-edge in the Premier League
It was a frustrating day at the office for Chelsea on Saturday night, as they struggled to create too many problems for Brentford, despite dominating the ball.
While Palmer scored his first goal of the season and fans got their first look at Garnacho, the performance was far from convincing.
Chelsea remain one of only two unbeaten teams in the Premier League this season, but unlike Liverpool, the Blues have only won half of their games.
| Match Stats | Brentford | Chelsea |
| Shots | 7 | 16 |
| Possession | 34% | 66% |
| Passes | 284 | 570 |
| Fouls | 13 | 9 |
Maresca’s side will need to be more clinical moving forward, after only managing six shots on target against the Bees, as that cutting-edge is important if they want to challenge at the top of the table.
