Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies will captain his country on Thursday night as Wales go up against Finland in a crucial Euro 2024 play-off clash – alongside Spurs teammate Brennan Johnson.

The Spurs duo, alongside Tottenham-owned Joe Rodon, must win at The Cardiff City to stand a chance of going to Euro 2024 in the summer. A win will see them go up against Poland or Estonia, next week.

Win that, and Wales will be at Euro 2024 – a huge achievement. Davies remains crucial to the Wales set-up, with Thursday night set to be his 86th cap for his country. Johnson is just getting started for Wales.

This season, the attacker has made a solid start to life at Spurs following his £50m move. The player, who is learning French to speak to some Spurs teammates, has had a hand in 10 Premier League goals.

Ben Davies expects Tottenham man Brennan Johnson to improve

Spurs are starting to look particularly exciting in attack, perhaps even more so than when they boasted Harry Kane up top. Son Heung-min remains one of the best, while Richarlison is finally starting to shine.

A plethora of top-quality wingers in Deki Kulusevski, Timo Werner, Bryan Gil and more are connected in attack by James Maddison. Signings are likely in the summer, with potential Champions League football.

Speaking ahead of the Euro 2024 play-off against Finland – which Wales will be expected to win given home advantage – Davies said that Johnson is a player that is impressing, but will only get a lot better.

“He is playing at a big club in big games,” Davies said about Tottenham star Johnson, as per Yahoo Sport. “He is pulling out results, scoring goals and getting assists. He offers a lot of pace, very direct.

“He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He has taken it in his stride. We will see a better and better player coming. If he can bring that quality into a Welsh shirt for us we’ll be very happy.”

What Brennan Johnson is like behind the Tottenham scenes

Johnson is everything you want in a modern-day attacker. Technically gifted, scoring and creating goals. Good numbers. But his aggression, his tenacity and his work rate suits the style of Ange Postecoglou.

The Aussie gaffer wants to play high-risk, high-reward football and Johnson’s tenacious style of play is perfect for Spurs. Alasdair Gold recently shared what those at Tottenham have told him about Johnson.

“He’s a very well-liked guy around the club, he’s a very willing learner, very clever guy,” Gold reported. That willingness to learn and be liked by teammates will hold Johnson in good stead moving forward.

He will be hoping to play a part and perhaps, get on the score sheet for only the third time in a Wales shirt tonight – as Rob Page’s men look to book their place at Euro 2024 come the end of the season.
