Belief Tottenham target Milan Skriniar may sign new Inter deal - journalist

Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that there is a belief in Italy that Milan Skriniar may sign a new contract at Inter Milan amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Skriniar’s future is going to be discussed a lot in the coming weeks and months. The 27-year-old’s current deal at San Siro expires at the end of the season, as shown by Transfermarkt.

Of course, Antonio Conte knows the Slovakian well. They worked together with the Nerazzurri, helping Inter win the Scudetto. And recent reports from Give Me Sport suggested that Spurs are admirers of the defender.

In fact, Calciomercatoweb suggested that Skriniar is Conte’s dream defensive signing. And with that, they are prepared to spend £26 million on him.

Tottenham will need to strengthen at centre-back in the summer. Clement Lenglet has only joined on loan for the season. So he appears to be a temporary solution for the club.

However, it seems that their hopes of Skriniar may be dealt a blow. Jones has claimed that some are now expecting him to extend his stay with Inter in the coming months.

“It’s all going to depend on what happens with his contract at Inter. I mean, there’s a belief in Italy that he might still end up signing a new deal,” he told Give Me Sport.

“If you were to look at it on face value now, it looks like he might be available at a cut price, but the reality of that might be different.”

Inter are under a little pressure when it comes to Skriniar’s future. From January, he will be able to discuss a pre-contract deal with clubs outside of Italy. So Tottenham may well be waiting in the wings.

Perhaps his preference is to sign a new deal with Inter. But if he is open to talks with other clubs, Spurs may fancy their chances of leaving him with food for thought.

And signing him on a free transfer would be a superb piece of business for Tottenham. He has been one of Europe’s most outstanding defenders over the last few years.

But it would appear that Inter are optimistic that they will be able to convince Skriniar to stick around.
