PSG are now ahead of Tottenham in race to sign defender who Mbappe was promised would sign - journalist

Paris Saint-Germain are ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

Italian reporter Carlo Garganese has told Give Me Sport that the French champions are leading the chase to land the Slovakian international.

Spurs have been looking for a long-term central defensive solution after a summer when they only signed Clement Lenglet in that role on loan.

So that is something which is set to come up in the transfer windows ahead, but it seems that Spurs might be on the losing side in this particular race.

Tottenham behind in Skriniar race

He said of Skriniar: “They’re certainly looking at him. There are lots of teams looking at him.

“PSG are the team that are most interested in him.

“PSG tried to sign him in the summer. They were in negotiations with Inter for a long time.”

Spurs boss Antonio Conte has worked with Skriniar at Inter Milan, so he knows all about his qualities and capabilities to fit into the back three that the Italian prefers to play with wherever he goes.

Kylian Mbappe was promised that PSG would sign players including Skriniar during the summer.

Get French Football News report that Mbappe was told Skriniar, Robert Lewandowski and Bernardo Silva would all be joining.

None of them came in that particular window but with Mbappe’s future up in the air again, it seems that PSG are still looking to bring them in.

Skriniar is not at the World Cup, so he should get back to action fresh when domestic football resumes, and it remains to be seen where his future lies thereafter.
