'He ran off like...': BBC pundit says one Liverpool players thought the league was won against Wolves

Liverpool came agonisingly close to snatching the Premier League from Manchester City today, only to be denied by a stunning comeback from Guardiola’s men.

The Reds had looked to be on their way to a second PL title when two goals from Villa had shocked The Etihad into silence. At the time of Villa being 2-0 up, Liverpool were 1-1 with Wolves but there was a real sense that a win was around the corner. And when Mo Salah scored to make it 2-1, there was a feeling it might happen.

However, Salah’s goal went in while City were in the midst of their own stunning five minute spell to go 3-2 up against Villa. And while Liverpool fans might have known Salah’s effort was in vain, former Reds left-back Stephen Warnock told the BBC that he spotted Salah looking like he’d won Liverpool the league.

UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL

“Mohamed Salah when he scored, he ran off like he had scored the winning goal in the Premier League. That was the sense we got,” Warnock told the BBC.

“The noise around the stadium was absolutely deafening when the goals went in against City and Liverpool must have been thinking they were back in it. But you don’t hear the other side of it – what reaction do you give around the ground to let the players know that City are winning 3-2? You can’t.”

Salah ended up sharing the Golden Boot with Heung-Min Son in the end. Both finished with 23 goals to their name.

TBR’s View: Salah Needs To Stay At Liverpool And Win Another League Title

It’s been another remarkable season for Salah and Liverpool. But once again, City just had too much when it came to the Premier League title race.

For Salah, the questions will now continue over his future. He’s yet to sign a new contract and Liverpool fans will be hoping there is an agreement in place coming soon.

He has done all he can at the club. But winning another PL title is surely high on his agenda.
