BBC pundit calls 21-year-old striker a ‘nuisance’, amid reported Arsenal interest
Rio Ferdinand has described Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak as a “nuisance”, amid reported interest from Arsenal.
Isak started on Monday night during Sweden’s impressive 0-0 draw against Spain in a group stage match at Euro 2020.
Despite his side having only 15 per cent possession, Isak stood out. The 21-year-old centre-forward was effective whenever he had possession.
Firstly, he showed tremendous quick feet for someone 6ft 4in with some neat dribbles to get away from defenders. Secondly, he worked his socks off in attack when his team were camped in. Finally, he had a deflected shot hit the post to show his threat even when his side were up against it.
Interestingly, the Athletic reported earlier this month that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Isak.
The report explained that he’s got a €70million (£60.2million) release clause in his deal with Spanish La Liga club Sociedad, but that he’s on the radar of the Gunners.
Ferdinand, who is working as a BBC pundit this summer for Euro 2020, singled out Isak as a huge positive.
“He was a nuisance. He showed today why he has got Young Player of the Year in La Liga. He was the outlet,” Ferdinand said on BBC One (10:02pm, 14 June).
Arsenal fans should keep close eye on Isak
It was difficult for any offensive players for Sweden to shine against Spain, but Isak was memorable for his flashes of brilliance.
Arsenal supporters should be intrigued to watch him during the coming days in Euro matches against Slovakia and Poland.
It should be a much greater yardstick to see his talent.
He scored 17 goals in 44 games across all competitions in the recent season for Sociedad, so has big talent. But, at his age there is so much potential for him to grow, and his reputation may keep rising during the Euros.
