As Mathys Tel has made his move to Tottenham Hotspur on loan until the end of the season, plenty of opinions have emerged about the blockbuster transfer.
For example, Jamie Carragher believes Tel joining Tottenham suits both parties and described Spurs’ swoop as a “very good deal.”
However, Ally McCoist feels Tottenham did not need Tel as he is still quite a young prospect and he may not be ready enough to become an instant hit in N17.
On the other hand, Tottenham think Tel is a top talent and internally believe that their successful capture of the Frenchman for the next couple of months is certainly a coup.
Mathys Tel is still a relatively unknown commodity in English football and naturally, the reaction to the 19-year-old’s move to the Lilywhites has split opinion.
Bayern Munich left divided over Mathys Tel signing for Tottenham
Bayern Munich fans have been left divided over Tel signing for Tottenham on loan. Some supporters wished Tel, who spoke to Harry Kane before joining Tottenham the best of luck and felt his move to North London would be a brilliant opportunity for him to develop and return to the Allianz Arena.
One fan wrote: “Luckily it’s only a loan deal! We would have regretted selling him at some point, but this is how he can develop. See you in 6 months Mathys.” Another Bayern fan added: “Hope Tel and dominates the Premier League, then comes back home for his career at Bayern.”
Ange Postecoglou persuaded Tel to sign for Tottenham and one Bayern fan that while he should not have moved to Spurs, he hopes the young goalscorer returns to Germany as a better player: “I’m not upset at Tel, he’s still really young but man, this kid needs a new agent, I hope he excels at Tottenham and comes back and is a legend here but the kid needs better guidance.”
While the aforementioned group of Bayern supporters clearly feel Tel, labelled a “special striker” has a future in Bavaria, others strongly believe he is simply not good enough to play for Vincent Kompany’s side.
“No it doesn’t he needs to get better and this is the best way to get more playing time. Get over it. He’s not good enough right now.”
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy played a key role in Tel’s signing, who one Bayern fan claimed was never at the level to play for them, saying: “The next [Ryan] Gravenberch, [Renato] Sanches, [Tanguy] Nianzou etc. None of the world-class talents were good enough for us. Who did the scouting and gave them a contract? Fire them all!”
One fan was unhappy about the move as a whole, writing: “Sorry, you extend the contract of a top talent until 2029, then don’t give him a chance and then just let him go after a short time. I don’t understand that.”
Harry Kane says Mathys Tel to Tottenham loan is a “great move”
However, Kane thinks Tel’s move to Tottenham is brilliant for both parties.
“Yeah, it’s a great move for both parties. Mathys is a great guy, really hardworking, obviously full of potential, it’ll be really important for him to get some minutes under his belt and get some regular game time and hopefully develop and keep improving and fulfill all the potential that he has.
“It’s great for Tottenham to have a great, hungry player with loads of talent, so hopefully, he will score some goals and push Tottenham as far as possible. I’m wishing him all the best, I hope he has a fantastic time there, I’m sure he will and I’m sure the fans will make him feel really welcome as well.”
