Barry Ferguson identifies what Ange Postecoglou will be 'desperate' to do at Celtic ahead of January window

Barry Ferguson has told Go Radio that Ange Postecoglou will be ‘desperate’ to sign Celtic star Jota permanently – with other clubs likely to be watching.

Jota, 22, has been on fire for Celtic of late. On Sunday, he scored the winner in Scott Brown’s return to Parkhead, as Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-1.

The Portuguese ace has now scored five goals in his last five games, and already has 14 goal involvements in 17 games. Scoring eight, creating six.

It has been widely reported that Celtic have a £7million clause in his loan deal from Benfica. A deal that is yet to be activated by Celtic and the board.

Rangers legend Ferguson was asked about Jota, and he heaped praise on the Celtic ace. He thinks Postecoglou will be “desperate” to get a deal done.

That is, because Ferguson also thinks that there will be clubs watching the on-loan Benfica star ahead of the January transfer window.

“He’s producing week in, week out now. He’s adding goals to his game, he works hard for the team. Clubs will be watching,” Ferguson said.

“His form since he has come in, has been outstanding. That buyout clause. Ange will be desperate to get it tied up.”

Ferguson on Jota: What are Celtic waiting for, over permanent deal?

Jota must be signed, instantly. As Ferguson says, clubs of a similar stature will be looking at the winger and be interested in signing him, soon.

Bigger clubs with more readily available funds will surely try to appeal to Jota and Benfica – by offering more than the £7million clause.

Of course, if Celtic activate the clause – Benfica cannot reject it. But Jota can reject a move, and the lure of other clubs will surely be tempting.

But before that happens – which could occur in January – Celtic have got to take action and get a deal done for Jota, as Ferguson says.
