Report: Barcelona tell 'extraordinary' player he's free to join Tottenham, amid Paratici interest
A report from Sport over in Spain today has suggested that Barcelona are now happy for Franck Kessie to leave, amid interest from Tottenham.
Spurs are thought to be keen on signing Kessie again after missing out on him earlier in the year. Kessie chose to join Barcelona instead of the Premier League side, despite Fabio Paratici being desperately keen to bring him to North London.
Reports a few days back had suggested that Xavi had told Kessie that he’d prefer to keep him. However, today’s update seems to suggest that Kessie could be on his way soon, with a loan or permanent transfer both options Barca will consider.
Whether or not Tottenham will now push on to make a move remains to be seen. But Barca’s apparent willingness to let Kessie go will encourage Paratici and co.
Kessie had made his name with AC Milan and put in some fine performances to get his move to Spain. Dubbed an ‘extraordinary‘ player by Vincenzo Montella, Kessie hasn’t shown his best in La Liga. Instead, he’s seen the likes of Gavi and Pedro move ahead of him in the pecking order.
TBR’s View: Kessie can be an interesting option for Tottenham
Sure, Kessie hasn’t shown his best for Barcelona. But that doesn’t mean he is a bad player and has suddenly lost all his talent.
Kessie was a dynamic and brilliant player in Milan who had a lot to offer in midfield. Sometimes a move doesn’t work out and that’s what seems to have happened with this transfer.
However, given he could be available on the cheap or a loan, Kessie might prove a decent option for Spurs. They need a few reinforcements to ensure they make the top four. And if Conte can get Kessie firing, then he’ll be a smart signing.
