Barcelona fans react as Leeds reportedly eye one of their defenders this summer
Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo has emerged on Leeds United’s transfer radar this summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post. The Dominican Republic ace was a bit-part player at Barcelona last season. Leeds could now offer an escape route for Firpo – and Barcelona fans have responded.
Firpo, 24, has failed to break into the Barcelona side on a regular basis since joining the club in 2019. Over the last two seasons, he has managed just 41 appearances for Barcelona. Under Ronald Koeman, Firpo managed just 18 outings – largely because of Barcelona icon Jordi Alba.
The YEP have stated that Firpo is a target for Leeds – but the Whites do face competition for his signature. West Ham and Southampton have been mentioned as options and AC Milan. That is reported by Mundo Deportivo, while CalcioMercato say he is available for just £13million.
Firpo would be a sensational signing for Leeds – Barcelona fans have their say
So, Leeds need a left-back. Gjanni Alioski’s contract will expire at Elland Road on Wednesday. Stuart Dallas is being used in midfield, while Leif Davis is not considered the standard required. Leeds need a left-back, but other options include Maxwel Cornet, Romain Perraud and Javi Galan.
Barcelona fans have reacted on Twitter to reports that Leeds are interested in signing Firpo in the coming weeks and months. The left-sided defender would hand Leeds a long-term solution because of his age, and is on the cheap. So Leeds want him, and Barca fans are keen to see him go.
