'Bad one': Neville shares what he noticed about Arsenal's players on the pitch just after full-time last night

Gary Neville says Arsenal know Champions League is gone after last night’s loss at Newcastle, judging by the players’ body language.

Arsenal have been unable to recover from Thursday’s north London derby defeat against Tottenham and produced a fragile performance at St James’ Park.

They lost 2-0 and now the final place in the top four is out of their hands, with Spurs needing just a point against relegated Norwich on Sunday to seal it.

Neville was covering the game for Sky Sports and shared what he spotted about Mikel Arteta’s players on the pitch at the end of the game.

Neville says Arsenal know Champions League is gone

“That’s a bad one. Those Arsenal players’ body language at the end tells you it’s a more than a defeat, it’s a big one,” said Neville.

“I gave them the benefit of the doubt at half-time. I thought they only way they were going to win that one was through a grind. I didn’t think they would come out of that game at Tottenham, that was damaging.

“They were brutalised by that Tottenham fanbase for 60 minutes. That’s a young team that doesn’t have experience and character.

“I never fully trusted them to get into the top four, to be honest with you, but I thought they would come out second half and respond to a poor first half but they showed us nothing.”

Arsenal could still get into the top four if Norwich do them a favour, but they missed their final chance to be in control of their own destiny last night.

Not only that, the performance was so bad, indicating that the mentality of the squad is not where it needs to be and that injuries have bitten too.

The Gunners had a great advantage this season without being in European football, but it looks like being Europa League next term, barring a huge turnaround on the final day of the campaign.
