Atletico one step from signing reported Leeds target Cunha
Atletico Madrid will now purchase reported Leeds United target Matheus Cunha, according to Gianluca Di Marzio
What’s the story?
The transfer guru claims the fee will be €30m (£25.7m) for the ace who was interesting the Whites, according to Kicker.
A move for the Bundesliga forward comes amid failure to sign Dusan Vlahovic. Fiorentina rejected Atletico’s advances for the 21-year-old Serbian.
The South American has been a target for the Elland Road outfit this summer.
Hertha Berlin manager Pal Dardai recently confirmed the ace had plenty of offers on the table.
Leeds desperately need a backup striker
Last season was a brilliant return to the Premier League for Leeds.
But there was one very big flaw in the Whites’ approach for much of the campaign.
Patrick Bamford was by far the club’s best goal-scorer. The ace scored 17 times in the top flight with the next highest total just eight.
He proves to be Leeds’ only out-and-out striker. Tyler Roberts is also an option, however, he is far from potent, scoring just once in the top flight last term.
And Bielsa was lucky as the England international started 37 of the 38 league games.
Imagine if Bamford was to pick up an injury, it would ruin the season for the Whites.
Leeds are in desperate need of a striker after losing out on Cunha to Atletico.
The club cannot afford to go through a whole campaign with just Bamford yet again. It leaves a high amount of pressure on the 27-year-old’s shoulders and is unsustainable.
