Report: Aston Villa now keen to sign 'terrific' player, after claims Arsenal have held transfer meeting about him
Aston Villa want to sign Bologna full-back and reported Arsenal target, Aaron Hickey, according to reports from The Telegraph.
Hickey is thought to be high on Arsenal’s list of targets and it’s even been claimed that Bologna’s transfer committee travelled to London last night to hold talks with Edu and co.
However, no deal is done yet and The Telegraph has reported how Hickey is on the list of players Villa boss Steven Gerrard is keen on bringing to the club this summer. It’s claimed the Villa boss wants to bring in a new left-back to challenge Lucas Digne, and both Hickey and Rangers star, Calvin Bassey, are said to be targets.
Hickey, who was branded as ‘terrific’ in an article profiling Europe’s best young players, has impressed in Italy since making the move over from Scotland. A move to the Premier League is being touted ahead of this summer, and it seems the Scot won’t be short of options.
Arsenal, of course, could be able to offer Champions League football come the end of the season. Villa, meanwhile, are keen on giving Gerrard the right players to improve the squad.
TBR’s View: Aston Villa Want Aaron Hickey For Good Reason
Hickey is proving himself to be a fine player and there is a good reason why teams are wanting him. Arsenal are desperate for new players, while Villa are keen to push into the top ten if they can.
Both the Gunners and Villa will be fine clubs for Hickey to move to. Of course, European football could aide his decision, but Villa are going places you feel under Gerrard, despite some poor results.
At around £17m, you have to say Hickey looks a bit of a bargain buy. Both Villa and Arsenal, then, could find themselves in a scrap here.
