Aston Villa told they’re being linked with signing a player who ‘disappears’ in matches

Aston Villa have been warned that one player Unai Emery is rumoured to be interested in signing is someone who can go invisible in games.

The Villians have been one of the biggest spenders in Europe the summer transfer window, with Villa recently announcing the signing of Amadou Onana having already brought in Ian Maatsen, Jaden Philogene and Samuel Iling-Junior.

Even with so much spent, it appears that Villa aren’t done yet on their summer business, with Callum Hudson-Odoi also wanted by Emery’s side, and the Villa Park giants making a surprise inquiry for Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski.

Yet Villa have now been warned against signing one player this summer.

Villa urged against signing Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix

Speaking on ESPN FC, pundit Steve Nicol warned Villa about signing Joao Felix, who has emerged as a top target for Emery in recent weeks, with Atletico Madrid open to selling the Portuguese international at last this summer.

Nicol said on Villa potentially signing Felix this summer: “It seems like a strange question, but it’s true. Is he as good as we think he’s supposed to be? No. You keep hearing us talk about the players that get coaches sacked and he falls in that category.

“He’s a guy that will show flashes of absolute genius or for a couple of games on the trot where he’s like fantastic, and you think, right, here we go, I have got it, we have seen it, and then disappears.

“He has got the ability that 80% of the other players on the planet don’t have, but unfortunately, he doesn’t know how to use it consistently.”

Villa should heed Felix warning after what’s happened in recent seasons

Felix was once viewed as one of the most promising talents in world football, with many fans and pundits predicting the former Benfica wonderkid to develop into a potential Ballon d’Or winner.

However, Felix’s career has failed to live up to the heights many expected, with Atletico the wrong choice for the forward with loan moves to Chelsea and FC Barcelona doing little to revive the attacker’s career.

And for Villa, they should heed Nicol’s warning on Felix, who could be a poor attacking signing that has already shown isn’t fully ready for the Premier League after a disappointing spell with Chelsea.
