Report: Aston Villa to push again for 'sensational' £50m player who Newcastle were desperate for in January

Aston Villa make another move to try and sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder, Yves Bissouma, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Villans and their manager, Steven Gerrard, are said to be desperate to sign a holding midfield in the summer transfer window. The Telegraph reports how there are question marks over the future of Douglas Luiz, and that Gerrard has got both Bissouma and Leeds star, Kalvin Phillips, on his radar.

Bissouma is one of the standout players at Brighton and the club are thought to value him at around £50m. However, he is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract and the Seagulls will be lucky to get that fee now.

Newcastle United are also known to be keen on Bissouma and made a big push to land him in January. Of course, no deal was ever done and the Mali star remains at the AMEX.

TBR’s View: Bissouma Would Thrive Under Gerrard At Villa

There is a real top player in there when it comes to Yves Bissouma and while Brighton do well under Graham Potter, you do feel a move to a ‘bigger’ club beckons.

Other sides like Liverpool and Arsenal have watched him in the past. And it’s easy to see why. Bissouma has a bit of everything when it comes to the ideal Premier League midfielder. In terms of what Gerrard wants as well, his defensive capabilities make him ideal.

Should Villa get Bissouma for less than that £50m price mentioned, then you have to say they’re probably getting a bargain.
