Aston Villa are now ready to sign a player who Chelsea decided to reject in favour of Joao Felix.
Unai Emery and Monchi – Director of Football at Villa Park – have certainly been busy this summer, bringing eight new players to the Midlands after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League last season.
Now – according to sources in Spain – Aston Villa are willing to spend £30m to bring a ninth new face to Villa Park…
Aston Villa want to sign Samu Omorodion
A story from El Desmarque now states that Aston Villa are willing to spend £30m to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish news outlet explain how Chelsea were close to signing the Spain U21 international and even flew the striker to London for a medical – only to abandon the deal and sign Felix instead after he became available.
El Desmarque add that Atletico Madrid remain open to selling Omorodion – who has been compared to Erling Haaland – despite the Portugal international’s exit from the Wanda Metropolitano, with Diego Simeone’s side hoping to receive €35m (£30m).

Aston Villa are said to be happy to pay that amount for the 20-year-old, who is admired by both Emery and Monchi as the Villans aim to bolster their attacking department before the transfer window shuts on Friday 30th August.
Interestingly, Aston Villa were offered the chance to sign Omorodion after Chelsea pulled out – an opportunity which the Villans now seem ready to pounce on.
Unai Emery and Monchi move on from Jean-Philippe Mateta
If El Desmarque are accurate with their report, it would suggest that Aston Villa have decided to move on from Jean-Philippe Mateta.

A story from the Express recently claimed that Aston Villa wanted to sign the Crystal Palace No.14 after discussions over a new contract hit a brick wall at Selhurst Park.
However, it feels highly unlikely that Emery would sign both Omorodion and Mateta, with Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran already at Villa Park, so a move for the Crystal Palace talisman now looks off the cards.
