Report: European outfit interested in 23-year-old Aston Villa ace; Guardiola called him 'physically strong'
The publication are claiming he’s a target for Jose Mourinho’s side, who are also chasing Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.
Roma have had a £12.9m bid rejected for the Switzerland international, whom Mourinho wants to bring to Rome.
There has been mass speculation over the Brazilian ace over the last few weeks.
It was claimed that Manchester City have a £27.5m buy-back clause in his contract.
Luiz was a key part of Dean Smith’s side last season, appearing in 33 times in the Premier League. The Midlanders finished in 11th place in the table, just a year after struggling against relegation.
Pep Guardiola labelled him ‘physically strong’.
TBR View: Luiz a key figure for Aston Villa amid transfer speculation
Last season was a brilliant campaign for the Villa Park outfit. Despite the drop off in performances in the second-half of the season, there were plenty of positives.
And one of those positives was the 23-year-old holding player. He was at the heart of everything for Smith’s men.
No midfielder/attacker averaged more passes than Luiz. He also held the highest average pass accuracy of any player to start more than seven games.
The deep-lying ace also possesses tenacity in his defensive work, and made the second-most fouls last term.
And with question marks over Morgan Samson’s fitness for next season, retaining the ace becomes ever more important.
The Villains aren’t blessed with an abundance of talent in the centre of midfield. As a matter of fact, Luiz and Sanson are two of just three defensive midfielders.
Aston Villa can ill-afford to Luiz, who was one of their best players last season, this transfer window.
The lack of options both at the club and in the transfer market make him an indispensible player.
