Douglas Luiz will reportedly stay with Aston Villa after Manchester City passed on the option to re-sign the midfielder.
According to the Express and Star, Luiz will remain a Villa player this summer. City have an option to re-sign the Brazilian international. However, this clause will expire on June 5th.

Douglas Luiz is key for Villa’s future
Luiz was a key member of Dean Smith’s squad last season as Villa finished 11th in the Premier League table.
The 23-year-old midfielder is also a Brazilian international, with Luiz making five appearances for the South American powerhouses.
Indeed, the former City midfielder has split opinion amongst Villa fans this season. Luiz has impressed in some matches, whilst also heavily underperforming in others.

Yet this news on social media was met with a largely positive reaction by Villa fans. Luiz made 33 league appearances for the Birmingham-based club last season and formed a solid midfield pivot with Scotland international John McGinn.
Here’s what some Villa fans had to say about City passing up on re-signing Luiz on Twitter…

Furthermore, City would have to pay Villa £27.5m if they wanted to sign Luiz. The Manchester giants signed the Brazilian four years ago from Serie A side Vasco Da Gama when he was just 19-years-old.
