Christian Benteke has posted on Twitter after the powerhouse striker agreed a new one-year contract extension with Crystal Palace – and Aston Villa supporters have replied to their former star’s Tweet.
Benteke, 28, has signed a new deal which will keep him at Selhurst Park until the summer of 2021. His previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season – the new contract sees Palace rid themselves of the possibility of losing Benteke for nothing.
The Belgium international has struggled at Palace since completing a £28million (90Min) move to the London-based side from Liverpool. Indeed, he starred in his first season, scoring 15 Premier League goals during 2016-17 for the Eagles.
But since then, he has managed just four Premier League goals in total. This season, he is yet to score, which has seen Liverpool fans stunned at Palace’s decision to offer him a new contract. Benteke posted on Twitter after agreeing the deal.
Benteke is remembered fondly at Villa, following his three years at the club. He joined from Belgian side Genk in the summer of 2012, and went on to score a whopping 49 goals in 101 league and cup appearances while Villa were in the Premier League.
Many Villa fans responded to Benteke’s Tweet, urging the target man to return to Villa despite his new deal at Palace.
