Liverpool fans react as Christian Benteke agrees new Crystal Palace deal

Christian Benteke has posted on Twitter after agreeing a new deal at Crystal Palace to keep him at the club until the summer of 2021 – and Liverpool fans have reacted to the news he has signed a contract extension

Benteke, 28, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015 but after just 10 goals in 42 appearances for The Reds, Benteke was sold to Crystal Palace where he is now in his fourth season at Selhurst Park.

The Belgian striker is struggling. Indeed, he has netted just four goals in 2017-18 and 2018-19 and is yet to score this season. Despite that lack of goalscoring form, Benteke has been handed a one-year extension at Selhurst Park.

The striker posted on Twitter after putting pen to paper, with his previous deal expiring at the end of this season. Roy Hodgson has opted to keep the striker at Palace, who was signed by Brendan Rodgers from Villa for a whopping £32.5million (BBC).

Benteke is currently being used as a substitute by Hodgson, with Jordan Ayew starting ahead of the Belgium international. Benteke did score during the international break for his country against San Marino – as the Belgians won 9-0.

Liverpool fans reacted to their former star’s Tweet after he agreed to extend his stay in the capital by another 12 months, and may Reds fans are shocked that Palace have opted to keep their £28million (90min) recruit on their books.
