Arsenal transfer news: AC Milan now pushing to extend Rafael Leao contract
AC Milan are now pushing to extend the contract of Arsenal target Rafael Leao.
Leao’s current contract runs out in 2024, and making securing his future a priority for the Italian side.
However, negotiations have been very protracted, with interest from elsewhere not helping Milan’s efforts.
Arsenal have been linked with a move to Leao in recent days as they look to improve their attacking options.
After missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk, the Gunners are now exploring alternative targets.
Mikel Arteta’s side are light on quality wide players right now.
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have barely missed a minute this season, and their deputies aren’t up to the same standard.
Bringing in a player like Leao in January would be a huge signal of intent, but likely very difficult.
The Portuguese forward has a £105m release clause, and AC Milan would likely demand a similar fee this month.

Romano took to Twitter to deliver an update on the 23-year-old’s future.
“AC Milan are pushing to get Rafa Leão’s new contract done and sealed as soon as possible – new round of talks expected in the next days with player’s laywer in Milano,” Romano said.
“Milan are now offering more than €7m net salary per season, add-ons included.”
Gazzetta dello Sport provided further details on Leao’s contract situation.
They believe that Leao is ‘thinking very seriously’ about renewing his current deal.
However, if discussions continue to be postponed, a summer move becomes ‘much more likely’.
Leao has been the subject of plenty of interest this season, with Tottenham also keen on the winger.
Arsenal will be hoping that Leao rejects Milan’s latest contract offer to improve their chances of signing him.
He’s been one of Milan’s best players this season, and starred for Portugal at the World Cup.
Leao clearly has plenty of potential, and could be the latest young player to join Arteta’s project.
