Arteta responds to reports 'extraordinary' Arsenal player's in talks over exit
Mikel Arteta has seemingly put an end to speculation surrounding the immediate future of Eddie Nketiah, with the Arsenal boss confirming that the striker will stay beyond the January transfer window – in comments reported by Football London.
Nketiah’s future looks set to be a talking point throughout the next few months. His contract at the Emirates expires at the end of the season.
It was reported this week that Crystal Palace had opened talks over a move. Meanwhile, it has also been suggested that Bayer Leverkusen have looked at a pre-contract deal.
Arsenal, of course, may be powerless from stopping the 22-year-old agreeing to join the Bundesliga side in the summer. However, it does appear that Palace are set for disappointment in this window.
Arteta was asked about speculation concerning Nketiah. And he made it clear that he will not be going anywhere.
“He’s our player and he’s going to stay with us,” he said, as reported by Football London.
Arsenal fans may be disappointed as Arteta claims Eddie Nketiah is staying
Nketiah has shown this season that he remains an exciting prospect with a bright future ahead. Arteta meanwhile, once labelled him ‘extraordinary‘. However, Arsenal fans may be a little disappointed about Arteta’s comments.
If Nketiah leaves, Arsenal simply have to sign a new striker in this window. Of course, the name they have been heavily linked with is Dusan Vlahovic.
But if Nketiah is staying this month, a new signing becomes less likely. Certainly, it would rule out any possibility of Nketiah signing a new contract if the Gunners brought in another goalscorer. He would then be fourth-choice.
Some may also be a little baffled Arsenal are seemingly not planning to take the money for Nketiah. The Gunners cannot force him out the door this month. But a move to Palace would certainly be a good one for his career.
He may still end up at Selhurst Park. But it is not going to happen this month, it seems.
