'Let's see': Mikel Arteta drops selection hint on star who 'makes the rest better'
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said that he hopes to be able to select midfielder Thomas Partey for this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace, after the Ghanaian impressed in the international break.
Partey hit two goals for Ghana in what was something of a break away from the norm for the usually defensive minded midfielder.
The £45m man is seen as integral to any success Arsenal will have this season under Arteta. And speaking ahead of the clash with Palace, the Spaniard confirmed he hopes to be able to all on Partey this weekend.
“Well, let’s see. We haven’t had the players here yet. Some of them because they’re still travelling and they’ve not been assessed by the medical staff, but hopefully,” Arteta said of Partey.
“He finished both games really well. He played well and scored a couple of goals like many other players did in this international break, and hopefully, everybody is in the right condition on Monday to help us win the game.”
Indeed, having Partey fit will be a big bonus. The powerhouse midfielder has missed too many games in the eyes of Gunners fans since signing.
When he does player, he is influential. Arteta himself even admitted as much after the 1-0 win at Burnley this season.
TBR’s View: Partey has to play for Arsenal at Palace if fit
Teams like Arsenal can’t afford to not play their best players. So if Partey is fit, then he simply has to start. He’s imperative to their way of playing.
Against Palace, it will be a battle. Partey’s presence in the middle, then, will be essential for the Arsenal. Of course, chipping in with the odd goal like he has done with Ghana this week wouldn’t go amiss either!
Arteta is right to be cautious. But if his man is fit, then he plays. It’s as simple as that.
