Arteta could unleash 'superb' young midfielder likened to Cazorla tonight, Arsenal fans should be excited - TBR View
Arsenal get their Europa League campaign under way this evening against FC Zurich at St Gallen’s Kybunpark.
The Gunners will be eager to hit the ground running in Europe and bounce back from their first defeat of the season.
Mikel Arteta will no doubt have an eye on this weekend’s fixture too, Sunday’s meeting with Everton at the Emirates.
With that in mind, there could well be some changes in the Arsenal starting XI in Switzerland.
One player who could potentially make a start is Fabio Vieira.
The Gunners snapped the 22-year-old up in June, a signing that went under the radar until it was all-but done.
Arsenal signed Vieira from Porto for a reported £30million fee, with an extra £4million in potential add-ons.
Arteta has resisted the temptation to throw the Portuguese ace in at the deep end.
So far, Vieira has made one appearance for the Gunners, coming off the bench against Manchester United.
His debut was promising, having two shots including one on target and played one great ball to Gabriel Jesus.
“I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it”
Tonight’s game could be the perfect opportunity for Vieira to get his first start for Arsenal.
Indeed, Arteta hinted at this in his pre-match presser.
“We were looking for players that could play in three positions in the frontline and in the attacking midfielder positions,” he told the Arsenal media team.
“We were looking for very specific qualities in the market and when I saw him, I really liked what I saw.
“Straight away, I was convinced that he was a player who can help us go to the next level and that he had the right personality and character to play for our club.
“It’s a shame that we detected an injury when we were doing the medical.
“He had no pre-season and everything has been delayed, but hopefully you’re going to see a lot more of him in the next few weeks, and I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it.”
So Arsenal fans should be excited with the potential prospect of seeing the “superb” Vieira start tonight.
