Arsene Wenger called reported Arsenal target Riyad Mahrez “outstanding” in 2016
Arsenal are being linked with Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, who’s someone that received big praise from Arsene Wenger a few years ago.
The Daily Mail reports that Premier League rivals Man City may be prepared to offload Mahrez.
It is stated that the Gunners want to snap him up. Additionally, they are keen on Raheem Sterling because he may also be available to leave the Etihad Stadium.
Mahrez, 30, looks like he’s in pole position to start tonight against Chelsea. It’s the biggest game in Man City’s history as they face Chelsea in the Champions League final.
The £160,000-a-week right-winger has been a key figure this season in Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring 14 goals and setting up nine assists.
However, reports suggest he may be granted an exit at the right price this summer.
Interestingly, Mahrez is someone that Arsenal legend and ex-manager Wenger raved about in 2016 when he called him “outstanding”.
Frenchman Wenger also admitted a year later he was interested in his signature, when he was at Leicester at the time, but that no bid had been made.
Will Arsenal finally get Riyad Mahrez?
The short answer, no.
Arsenal were linked countless times during his time at Leicester City, but ultimately he went to Man City.
It seems remarkably that he’s being linked with an exit, especially with the way he’s performed in the last few months.
He may be 30, but is playing some of his best ever football.
The left-footed winger would light up the Emirates Stadium if given the chance, but Arsenal fans shouldn’t get too excited.
