There have been some bizarre and downright unlucky injuries in football over the years, with Arsenal experiencing their fair share of them.
Under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, the Gunners have experienced plenty of absences as they contend with the pressure of playing in every competition at the top level.
Some have questioned Arsenal’s training and recovery methods over recent seasons, while others have pinned blame on the football authorities and the packed schedule.
In some instances, though, they have been extremely unfortunate, as was the case with one star back in the 2021/22 season.

Kieran Tierney suffered a freak knee injury in the Arsenal training ground showers
Arsenal’s injury luck hasn’t always been the best, but neither were the fortunes of a former player of theirs, Kieran Tierney.
The marauding left-back was signed from Celtic as a promising option back in 2019, where he quickly established himself as a key player.
The Scottish international was capable of causing plenty of problems when overlapping on the wing, while his deliveries were often top quality.
His main issue, however, was staying fit, as several injuries interrupted his time at the Emirates Stadium.
That proved especially costly for Arsenal in the 2021/22 season, as they hunted down a place in the Champions League.
Tierney appeared to pick up a problem in a win over Wolves, hyper-extending his knee, but he would carry on and play a few games afterwards.
It was only a few games later, after a training session with the Arsenal squad, that he picked up an issue from it in a freak accident.
Club doctor Gary O’Driscoll explained all in the documentary Arsenal: All or Nothing, back in 2022.
“The Wolves game, he had a hyper-extension injury,” he explained. “Finished the game, didn’t mention it and then played the next five games with no problems whatsoever.
“But he then walked out of the shower on Thursday after training, turned a corner, bent his knee and felt the knee collapse.”
It was revealed that Tierney had done cartilage damage in his knee after that incident, which required surgery.
That ended his season, and with it came crashing down Arsenal’s hopes of a top-four Premier League finish.
The Gunners suffered several big defeats after the defender went out injured, forcing them to settle for a place outside of the Champions League.
As far as strange injuries go, it was a moment where the north London club must have been cursing their luck.

Kieran Tierney’s injury history and troubles
There is no doubting the talent that Tierney has at his disposal; the main concern has always surrounded his fitness.
The defender has had some rotten luck with injuries, as he faced several lengthy spells out of the team.

At 28 years old, Tierney is now back at Celtic, hopeful of recapturing his best form with his boyhood club.
He will be ruing his luck with injuries, but there is a chance for him to make the most of his peak years in professional football in a familiar environment.
