Fans of Champions League club buzzing after seeing who they just signed from Arsenal, one said ‘what a signing’

It remains to be seen who joins Arsenal this summer.

TBR Football understand Arsenal were close to striking an agreement for Benjamin Sesko – who had seemingly been picked over Viktor Gyokeres by Andrea Berta, Director of Football at the Emirates Stadium.

However, a deal now hangs in the balance, with Sesko frustrated at RB Leipzig after they allegedly went back on a promise they made the Slovenian regarding his price tag.

In the meantime, Arsenal have overseen a few departures to free up money on the wage bill for incomings, with Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic on a free transfer – a move those in Glasgow are absolutely delighted about.

Celtic fans celebrate the return of Kieran Tierney

Mikel Arteta has clearly allowed a very popular man to depart Arsenal.

Tierney made 170 appearances for Celtic before his £25m move to north London in August 2019 – where he won the FA Cup – and supporters of the UEFA Champions League outfit are overjoyed to have their academy graduate back.

One Celtic fan wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “What a signing on a free.”

Celtic actually agreed terms with Tierney in January, but opted to wait until the summer for a free transfer instead of paying Arsenal a fee to sign the left-back during the winter transfer window.

A second Celtic fan then hilariously said this would be “the best thing to happen all year” if they didn’t only recently have a baby.

They posted on X: “If I didn’t have a wean three months ago then this would have been the best thing to happen all year.”

Furthermore, a third Celtic supporter said Tierney will impact the side in a similar way to Kasper Schmeichel, writing: “Just like when Kasper came in, KT (Kieran Tierney) will take us up to another level.”

A fourth Celtic fan then simply wrote “now that’s made my Tuesday” while also posting a green heart.

Elsewhere, a fifth supporter even claimed the announcement was close to moving them to tears, saying: “I actually want to cry.”

Last but not least, a sixth Celtic fan simply wrote “welcome back KT” – also posting a green heart emoji.

Kieran Tierney already backed to become captain of Celtic after Arsenal exit

The 28-year-old is yet to even kick a ball for Celtic since returning, but he has already been backed to receive the captaincy under Brendan Rodgers.

Scott Brown spoke highly of Tierney when telling the BBC what his return means to Celtic, saying: “He’s a very, very good character in and about the place. Everyone loves him because he gives 110%.

“You can see how good he’s got going down the road, working with even better players as well, playing in the Champions League, then going away to Spain.

“It’s a really good fit for the club and also a really good fit for him as well. He’s nowhere near coming to the end of his career. He’s still got a long, long way to go. It’s probably the best move Celtic’s made… you can see longer term, Kieran will probably be next Celtic captain.”

Tierney only managed to make two Premier League starts last season due to a combination of injuries and competition for places, so on the pitch at least, he will not be a huge miss for Arteta.

However, the Douglas-born defender is unquestionably returning to a place he is adored, after a difficult 2024/25 campaign with the Gunners.
