Mathys Tel will be heading to North London on deadline day – not to Arsenal but to join Tottenham Hotspur.
The transfer saga involving the Bayern Munich star has been an eventful one in the days leading up to the final hours of the transfer window.
Tel had turned down a move to Tottenham, and several reports claimed that their North London rivals Arsenal were still in the race to sign him.
However, the Gunners passed on that opportunity, and their plans for a new striker will likely frustrate many Arsenal fans.
Arsenal’s plans for a new striker after snubbing chance to sign Mathys Tel
Arsenal have been in need of a new striker for several windows now.
Mikel Arteta is yet to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Emirates, and the Gabon international left the Gunners three full years ago.
Arsenal fans have been hoping to see their side sign a new number nine on deadline day, but there is some bad news on that front now.
Dean Jones has revealed in his report on GiveMeSport that Arsenal are set to stick with what they have got in the current transfer window.
“The feeling amongst various sources is that they will now wait until the summer before making a pledge towards a player in the ilk of either Alexander Isak or Benjamin Sesko,” the report claims.
Arteta is expected to make a ‘huge signing’ up front for Arsenal in the summer, and that is obviously good news for next season.
But, for now, the Gunners will have to rely on Kai Havertz to get them the goals to catch Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

The reason why Arsenal decided against signing Mathys Tel
Arsenal were interested in signing Tel on deadline day.
The Gunners held talks with Bayern Munich over a deal to sign the talented Frenchman, but Arteta’s side decided against signing him because of the structure of the deal.
TBR Football can reveal that Arsenal wanted to have a buy option included in any deal for Tel, but Spurs agreed to sign him on a straight loan.
Arsenal had no interest in helping develop a player and then not have an option to sign him permanently. So, they pulled out of the deal.
That opened the door for Tottenham, who look set to seal the deal for Tel before the deadline.
