Arsenal are believed to be keen on signing Viktor Gyokeres – who is having a quite remarkable campaign with Sporting CP in Portugal.

It was the Mirror who claimed that Arsenal want to sign the Sweden international.

So, what is the situation involving Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres? Let’s take a look…

Gyokeres on fire as Arsenal show interest

Well, the 25-year-old only arrived at Sporting CP back in July after the Portuguese giants agreed a £20m deal with Coventry.

The Stockholm-born striker scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists for Coventry in 50 appearances last season.

Sporting CP immediately placed a €100m (£85m) release clause in the Swede’s contract – as confirmed on the club’s official website – and even that is now starting to look like it could be a bargain fee as Arsenal scouts watch on, according to the Mirror.

Gyokeres has remarkably scored 26 goals in just 28 appearances for Sporting CP – while also providing ten assists.

It means only Kylian Mbappe has recorded more goal involvements than the Arsenal target across Europe’s top seven leagues this season – the France international has 30 goals and seven assists to his name for PSG.

Arsenal should seriously consider Gyokeres over Toney

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Brentford No.17 Ivan Toney – according to the Mirror – although we believe Edu should give serious consideration to Gyokeres.

For a start, Brentford want £100m to sell the England international – whereas the Sporting CP No.9 can be signed for £85m thanks to his release clause.

Gyokeres is also two years younger than Toney – who is 27 – so Arsenal would be getting more longevity for their money.

The Mirror add that Manchester United and Chelsea want to sign Toney this summer as well, so if negotiations prove to be too difficult for Edu, the Brazilian should not hesitate to move for Gyokeres.
