Report: Arsenal want to sign 'world-class' Champions League winner 'at all costs'
Spanish outlet Sport has claimed that Arsenal are determined to sign Real Madrid midfielder, Marco Asensio, during the summer window.
The Gunners are one of the most talked about teams this summer, with the Arsenal board once again backing Mikel Arteta in the transfer market.
Arsenal have already moved to sign Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos, while Eddie Nketiah has also put pen to paper on a new contract with the club. And according to Sport, Arsenal might not be done there when it comes to eye-catching transfer news.
Their report claims that the Gunners are determined to sign Asensio, who is facing an uncertain future. The attacking midfielder, who has branded as ‘world-class‘ in the past, has been a key player for Los Blancos in recent years. Indeed, he has got his hands on multiple Champions League titles.
However, his contract scenario at the Bernabeu means he could be sold on. As well as Arsenal, Newcastle are also thought to have expressed an interest in Asensio, who could leave for as little as £35m.
TBR’s View: Asensio Would Give Arsenal Even More Quality
Some players simply improve most teams in world football and Marco Asensio is in that bracket. Well, he is when you think of a team like Arsenal, anyway.
The Real Madrid man has been outstanding over a number of seasons but just appears to have fallen foul of the Spaniards having so much quality in the squad. Not that they don’t want to keep him, as Sport reports a new four-year deal has been put on the table for Asensio.
If Arsenal could pull this one off, it would send a big message. Attracting a player from the world’s biggest club would be a statement, not to mention how he’d improve the first XI.
