Report: Newcastle interested in Arsenal target Marco Asensio
Newcastle United remain interested in Marco Asensio, with Marca reporting that Arsenal are the side showing the greatest willingness to open talks with Real Madrid.
Asensio’s future is likely to be a key talking point over the coming months. He is entering the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu.
Reports at the weekend claimed that Arsenal had opened talks with his representatives. And Madrid are indeed open to letting him go if he decides against signing a new deal in the Spanish capital.
Marca reports that Real would want around £35 million for Asensio if he leaves in this window. And there is plenty of Premier League interest.
Arsenal are the side showing the most interest in a deal for the 26-year-old forward. But Newcastle are also in the running.
It was reported towards the end of last season that the Magpies had made an enquiry. And it appears that they remain in the mix to secure his signature.
Newcastle interested in Asensio
Asensio would arguably be an ideal signing for many Newcastle supporters. Eddie Howe’s men are not working with an unlimited budget in this window. In fact, The Telegraph reported earlier this week that they have up to £100 million to spend.
Asensio would allow the Magpies make a marquee signing without spending a huge amount of their budget. He is a ‘world-class‘ forward Real, the champions of Europe, would like to keep.
Newcastle certainly need to improve their attacking options as they look to kick on next year. And Asensio can feature in a number of roles.
It does appear that Arsenal may be his most likely destination should he leave Real for an English side. But Newcastle will hope that they can make a real statement if the chance presents itself.
