Arsenal want Tammy Abraham and Jermaine Jenas called it last month

Arsenal are said to be keen on signing Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham this summer, with reports suggesting a £40m move could be on the cards.

As reported last week on The Boot Room, Abraham has emerged as a target for Arsenal, as they continue to work on their summer overhaul.

Abraham has dropped down the Chelsea pecking order under Thomas Tuchel. He was a regular under Frank Lampard, but Tuchel’s success with a false nine has left the England man in the wilderness.

Arsenal, meanwhile, continue to build. They’ve announced the signings of Nuno Tavares and Albert Lokonga, while a deal for Ben White is also close.

When it comes to Abraham, though, it might not surprise everyone. Indeed, one person it wouldn’t surprise is former Spurs man, Jermaine Jenas.

What’s been said?

Despite being like marmite among supporters, Jenas did actually call Abraham as a potential signing for Arsenal just last month.

Speaking to the Mirror, Jenas suggested Abraham could fit in for a number of clubs. But, he insisted he’d be a good fit for Arsenal to help Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“I would like to think that Tammy could maybe go on a loan. I don’t think it’s the time for Chelsea to be completely cutting ties,” Jenas said in June.

“He could even go to Arsenal, if Chelsea let him. Mikel Arteta is insistent on playing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off the left. He’s not going to go to Tottenham if Harry Kane is still there. West Ham? He’s a suitable player for a number of teams and I think a lot will be looking at his services.”

While it would still be a surprise to see Abraham end up with Arsenal, especially at £40m, like Jenas says, it’s not the most unreasonable suggestion.
