Arsenal urged to sign 'absolutely incredible' £40m midfielder likened to Cazorla and Musiala

Arsenal have been linked with a new midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

The Gunners reportedly tried to sign Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in summer, but failed to get a deal over the line.

Arsenal could well try again, and in wake of the World Cup, there may well be new potential targets in their sights.

This World Cup has seen quite a few players go from relative obscurity to worldwide fame amid dazzling displays.

And while Arsenal haven’t directly been linked with one particular player, there have been calls for them to sign him.

The player in question is Azzedine Ounahi, who plays for French outfit Angers and the Morocco national team.

The 22-year-old’s displays for the Atlas Lions en route to the semi-finals have propelled him into the spotlight.

So much so, in fact, that Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has urged Edu and Mikel Arteta to consider moving for him.

Even Mourinho loved what he saw from Ounahi

Parlour recently told talkSPORT that Ounahi is “different class” and he’d “definitely” take him at the Emirates.

“I think with that performance (against France in the semis), and from what I’ve seen of him at this tournament,” he added.

“He’s not fazed by a big game, which it is for your country.

“He’s so comfortable, he’s always on the half-turn, and always looking to probe and get balls in behind the full-backs.

“But I think it was a really good performance.”

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has described Ounahi as “absolutely incredible”.

And on Twitter, fans have compared him to the likes of Santi Cazorla, Yossi Benayoun, Dani Ceballos, Yaya Toure and Jamal Musiala.

Ounahi has already been linked with Leicester City, with L’Equipe suggesting he could cost up to £40m.

However, in wake of such a superb World Cup, you’d think that title and Europe-chasing clubs could now start circling.

With that in mind, Arsenal should look to move quickly, as there’ll be a lot of interest in Ounahi.

Fans and clubs will have one more chance to see him in action in Qatar.

Morocco will take on Croatia in their third-place match on Saturday.
