Report: Arsenal set to miss out on 'sensational' £50m player, Edu is baulking at asking-price set

Arsenal fans might have been hoping to see one more big signing arrive before Thursday, but it looks like the Gunners won’t be getting Wolves’ Pedro Neto.

Neto had emerged as one of the top targets for Arsenal after they let Nicolas Pepe move to Nice on loan. Indeed, reports suggested that Neto was the absolute priority signing for Arsenal if they were going to make another big signing before the deadline passes.

However, according to The Athletic today, Arsenal’s hopes of signing Neto are getting slimmer and slimmer, with Wolves effectively pricing the Gunners out of any deal with their £50m+ asking price.

Neto has returned from injury and has gone straight back into the first XI under Bruno Lage. Wolves have allowed Conor Coady to leave for Everton this summer, while they also sold Morgan Gibbs-White to Nottingham Forest for big money. Lage, meanwhile, has brought in a number of new signings himself.

But it seems that Wolves and Lage are determined to keep Neto as well and build themselves.

TBR’s View: Neto One For Arsenal In The Future

Things can change quickly in football and you never know, this one might well have another twist or turn before the deadline arrives this week.

However, for Arsenal, it might be best if they park any thought of signing Pedro Neto right now and look to keep him on the radar for the future. Sure, they’d love to get him right now but Wolves want huge money and having already spent a fortune on players this summer, Arsenal need to be smart.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see Arsenal revisit Neto in the future. Depending how he does this season, his price could be completely different in 12 months’ time.
