Report: Arsenal to move for 'really impressive' £12m man as deals for Jesus and Scamacca stall

Arsenal are desperate to sign a new striker this summer and could now make a move for Cagliari striker, Giovanni Simeone.

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport this weekend, Simeone has emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal, who are looking to bring in a new forward this summer. It’s claimed Arsenal – along with Juventus – have been impressed with the dynamic striker, who scored 17 goals this past season in Italy.

Simeone could represent a cheaper option for the Gunners, with GDS mentioning a fee of around £12m being enough to potentially prize the striker away,

Of course, Arsenal fans might be disappointed to hear Simeone is now on the radar. Up to now, bigger names have been linked with the club. Gabriel Jesus being the main one, while fellow Italian goalscorer Gianluca Scamacca has also been mentioned this weekend.

For Mikel Arteta, it is imperative that the club signs at least one striker this summer. Alex Lacazette has now definitely left, while Eddie Nketiah has yet to decide what he is doing and is out of contract. It means a massive void in the Arsenal squad, which needs filling.

TBR’s View: Simeone Needs To Be One Of Two Strikers For Arsenal

Gunners fans would be fuming if they heard all these big names and then just ended up with Giovani Simeone. And that’s no disrespect to the player himself, but more the fact Arsenal need more.

They need a proven goalscorer and not someone who has shown it in flashes in his career. Of course, Simeone might do well and 17 goals in Serie A is a good feat in itself. And he’s also been linked with England before, with West Ham keen on the ‘really impressive’ striker just last year.

£12m might prove a bargain buy here. But for Arsenal fans, Simeone needs to be one of two strikers, not the main man.
