Report: Arsenal win race for 21-year-old speedster despite another club offering more lucrative terms
Arsenal have reportedly won the race for Nuno Tavares.
Now, the Daily Mail has reported how close the Gunners came to potentially missing out.
Arsenal are apparently on the verge of completing a £7million deal for the versatile full-back.
However, Real Sociedad reportedly attempted to turn Tavares’ head with a last-minute proposal.
The La Liga club’s offer was apparently more lucrative than Arsenal’s proposal.
The report adds that Portuguese agent Cesar Boaventura and UK-based agency Sync Global played a key role in ensuring Tavares’ transfer closed with Arsenal.
Despite Sociedad’s offer being more lucrative, Boaventura moved quickly to ensure the deal for Tavares to join Arsenal remained on course, added the Mail.
His move is expected to be confirmed imminently with the Portugal youth international flying from Lisbon to the United Kingdom.
Tavares’ agent Rafael Santos shared a photo on Instagram alongside the defender on Friday evening before taking off.
Arsenal to complete transfer which provides competition for Tierney?
Arsenal are hoping that the 21-year-old ace will add competition for them in the left-back position.
Tavares should compete with Kieran Tierney for a place in Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up.
He featured in 25 games in all competitions for Benfica last season, where he registered three assists.
Anderlecht skipper Albert Sambi Lokonga is also reportedly nearing a move to Arsenal.
