Report: Arsenal hope to give 21-year-old his debut next week, he can become 'one of the best'
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Nuno Tavares.
And according to the Evening Standard, fans could see him in a Gunners shirt as early as next week.
Arsenal have been pursuing Tavares over the last week, and A Bola claims the left-back has already said his goodbyes to Benfica.
Tavares’ move is expected to be confirmed imminently with the Portugal youth international flying from Lisbon to the UK last week.
Rafael Santos, his agent, shared a photo on Instagram alongside the defender on Friday evening before taking off.
According to the Standard, the left-back is quarantining in the UK, as per government guidelines.
Arsenal are hopeful they can complete Tavares’ move this week and he can join the squad for their pre-season trip to Scotland next week, added the report.
The Gunners are travelling to Scotland on Monday for games with Hibernian on Tuesday and Rangers on Saturday.
If everything goes to plan, Tavares will be part of the Arsenal squad, reported the Standard.
“One of the fastest”
Gunners fans will no doubt be eager to see how the Portuguese fares at the club amid rave reviews.
In January, football agent Cesar Boaventura spoke highly of Tavares to Radio Marte, via talkSPORT.
“This player can play for any club in Europe,” Boaventura said.
“He’s a fast player, one of the fastest players in the whole Portuguese league.
“He’s young. Maybe he’s not a player ready for a big one. But he could be in the future.
“Within a couple of years. He can become one of the best in Europe.”
